Gil Knops is a partner at eMotio.law and has been a member of the Brussels Bar since 2009.

 

Founder of a start-up while working as a lawyer (2015), Gil has been assisting start-ups, tech companies and private transport compagnies and has developed an important and pragmatic expertise in commercial and corporate law as well in restructuring & insolvency.

 

Gil is an experienced dispute resolution lawyer and mainly acts in major judicial proceedings and arbitration cases:

  • he assists domestic and international clients in resolving complex disputes, whether through principled negotiation, mediation, judicial proceedings or arbitratio
  • he is a mediator accredited by the Federal Commission for Mediation in civil and commercial matters and trained in social mediation. He is one of the most renowned commercial mediators of his generation in Belgium
  • he prevents the emergence of conflicts by drafting tailored agreements (shareholder, partnership, sale and purchase agreements)
  • his areas of practice are: corporate litigation (shareholders’ disputes and post-acquisition claims), transport and logistics disputes and commercial disputes

 

Chairman of the Brussels Bar’s Institute of Communication, he provides seminars for lawyers in mediation, communication, reasoned negotiation and preparation for pleading.

 

Gil is also Professor in Alternative Dispute Resolution at the Brussels Bar as part of the Certificat d’aptitude à la profession d’avocat (CAPA) and at the Ecole Régionale d’Administration Publique (ERAP) of Brussels in conflict management and previous assistant at the Université Libre de Bruxelles for the introductory course in civil law (2011-2022).

 

He graduated from the University of Brussels (ULB) in 2007. He also holds a postgraduate Master’s degree in Economic Law from the University of Brussels (ULB) obtained in 2008.

 

Gil is the author of several publications and regularly lectures on mediation:
